REGULAR MEETING
AUGUST 12, 2025 –

The
meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Shaw with the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Present: Shaw, Barnhart-Smith, Rumsey, Myers, Pray,
Gardner, and VanElls. Absent: None
Rumsey
moved, and Myers seconded to approve the agenda as written. The motion carried unanimously.
Shaw moved, and
Barnhart-Smith seconded to approve the consent agenda. The motion carried unanimously. General
Fund consisting of Voucher #36145 through Voucher #36199, equaling: $261,845.11
plus digital transfers and payments of $1159.16, making a Grand Total of $263,004.27.
Payroll Report consisting of Voucher #42735 through #42748 and direct deposits
#DD6007 through #DD6121 plus digital payments for a Grand Total of $141,302.09.
Reports:
Sheriff’s Report: Deputy
Donvan reported on incidents in the township.
Planning Commission: 1) Tomorrow, a public hearing will be held
for a Special Use Permit application for Guinea Road Storage. 2) There will be
a discussion about the Tarrington Special Permit
Application.
Sewer Board: 1) The next meeting will be at the Waste
Water Treatment Plant on August 21st, at 6 pm.
Emergency Service Department: Chief Miller reported: 1) Significant Runs. 2)
He requested that the Board accept the resignation of Gerry Brown, a 24-hour
shift medic. Pray moved, and VanElls seconded, to accept the resignation of
Gerry Brown. The motion passed unanimously. 3) MTA will be having the
annual Emerging Issues for Emergency Services conference.
Assessor/Preston Community Services:
The Building Department has been busy with the Canfield Equipment project,
which is currently underway.
Public Service Department: 1)
This year there have been six full burials and fifteen cremations.
Supervisor’s Report: 1) Consumers Energy anticipates breaking
ground soon. 2) The Supervisor is negotiating a 425 Agreement
3) The Grand Pointe water
agreement is in final changes. There is a discussion about the Township
financing the special assessment portion of the project instead of retaining
Bond Counsel. 4) Nuisance complaints have been investigated. 5) The Township is
continuing to work with legal counsel to resolve the Tarrington
matter.
Other Reports & Announcements: 1)
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Dimondale Elementary School will be
held this Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Open house and tour will take place on
Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All community members
are welcome to attend. 2) Steve Killingsworth, President of the Dimondale
Business Association, introduced himself to the Board.

A motion was made by Shaw, seconded
by VanElls, to accept the 2026 Library lease as written, effective January 1,
2026, through December 31, 2026. Motion carried unanimously.
Supervisor Shaw addressed
the Board's concerns with a proposed 425 Agreement.
